S. Mohana Kumar is a senior Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) scientist associated with the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), Thiruvananthapuram. He served as the Mission Director for the LVM3-M4/Chandrayaan-3 launch, which lifted off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre on 14 July 2023. He has extensive experience in launch vehicle systems and space missions. Before Chandrayaan-3, he played a leading role in the successful commercial launch of 36 OneWeb India-2 satellites aboard the LVM3-M3 mission in March 2023. As Mission Director of Chandrayaan-3, his responsibility was to coordinate different teams and ISRO centres involved in the launch and ensure that the mission was executed successfully. He has also spoken about how lessons from the Chandrayaan-2 landing attempt were used to improve Chandrayaan-3, including extensive testing and simulations. Kumar studied Mechanical Engineering at the College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram, and later pursued aerospace engineering at the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru. He has also been reported as a recipient of the Dr. Vikram Sarabhai Award for Excellence in Space Science and Technology.
