Transparency, security, and user privacy are foundational to Indian Space Hub. Learn how we handle your data across our mobile applications, web services, and developer APIs.
1. Introduction & Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to the "India Space Hub" mobile application (iOS & Android), web platform (indianspacehub.com), and associated public space APIs. We are dedicated to providing a safe, educational, and inspiring environment for students, space researchers, developers, and space enthusiasts worldwide without invading user privacy.
2.Anonymous Usage & Analytics
No PII Required for Core Access: You can explore rocket launch calendars, ISRO mission archives, satellite orbit maps, space news, and cosmic glossaries anonymously.
For guest and anonymous users, we do not collect your name, phone number, device contacts, gallery photos, audio, or precise GPS physical coordinates.
Analytics: We use Google Firebase Analytics and Mixpanel to understand which screens and features are used and to fix problems (for example screen views, app version, device type and crash-free usage). When you are signed in, these events are linked to an internal account ID, not to your name or email. We do notuse the Android advertising ID or Apple's advertising identifier (IDFA), do not track you across other companies' apps or websites (so the iPhone app never asks for App Tracking Transparency permission), do not run ads, and do not use analytics for advertising or sell this data.
3. Device Permissions & Transparent Justifications
Required to fetch real-time rocket countdown timers, launch telemetry, space news, and astronomical images from our database.
Used to notify you about scheduled liftoffs, space station passes, celestial events, and Mission Campaigns (rich mission updates, badges, and event announcements). We store a device push token, not your identity, to deliver these through Firebase Cloud Messaging (and, on iPhone, Apple Push Notification service). The app asks for permission first, and you can also turn notifications off in your phone's Settings. You have granular control in Profile → Notification Settings: enable/disable by category (missions, astronomy, events, learning, app updates), pause all notifications, hide promotional or duplicate campaigns, and view your notification history — or turn push off entirely at any time.
Uses deep links (and, on Android only, the Google Play Install Referrer) to attribute referral points (+10 pts for referrer, +5 pts for friend) when invited through a friend's link. On iPhone, a referral code can also be entered by hand.
Stores app preferences (Dark/Light mode, launch reminders, offline glossary entries) securely on your local device.
Used only by event organisers to scan attendees' QR passes at the entrance. The camera opens only when an organiser taps "Scan passes", the QR code is read on the device, and no photos or video are recorded, stored or uploaded. Only the scanned pass code is sent to our server to check the attendee in. We never use the microphone. On both iPhone and Android you can deny the permission and type pass codes instead.
Used only when an organiser chooses an image for their organisation's logo. The system photo picker opens only when you tap to change the logo. We receive only the one image you pick, and it is shown publicly as that organisation's logo. We never read or upload the rest of your photo library.
We never request GPS or precise device location. If you choose to, you can manually select your Country, State, and City in Notification Settings so we can tell you about nearby planetarium, observatory, and space-exhibition events. Leaving this blank simply means you won't get local event alerts — everything else keeps working. In ABHA, the city you pick to filter events is saved only on your device.
4. User Accounts, Developer Data & Referral System
When you voluntarily register an account or create a Developer Profile:
- Account Details: We store your chosen display name, email address, avatar icon preference, and active social media links (only if provided by you).
- Sign in with Google: If you choose "Continue with Google" (on Android, iPhone or the web), Google shares your name, email address and Google account ID with us so we can create or find your account. We never receive your Google password.
- Developer API Keys: Managed securely to compute request usage quotas and rate limits.
- Referral Points & Rewards: We track total successful referrals to calculate your reward score and unlock community milestones (e.g. Community Builder badges).
- Push Device Token: A device-specific identifier used only to deliver notifications and Mission Campaigns to your device; it is deactivated automatically if you log out or uninstall the app.
- Notification Preferences: Your per-category and per-campaign settings (what you've enabled or muted), and, only if you set them, your Country/State/Region and City for local event alerts.
- Kids Mode Status: Whether Kids Mode is switched on is synced to your account so we can avoid sending you mission campaigns that aren't appropriate for that mode; no additional profile data is collected because of it.
- Campaign Engagement: Whether a Mission Campaign notification was delivered, opened, dismissed, or bookmarked, tied to your account so we don't repeat the same campaign and so we can measure what content is useful. This is never sold or shared — see Section 5.
5. Ad-Free & Data Protection Commitment
🔒 We Never Sell or Monetize Your Personal Data
India Space Hub does not contain invasive third-party ad networks, commercial data brokers, or user profiling trackers. Your browsing habits and cosmic searches are never sold or shared for targeted marketing.
The app may show our own announcements and featured links (for example a header banner or featured cards). These are first-party, show at most one promotional unit per screen, and are never shown in Kids Mode.
6.Children's Privacy & Families
Our platform is educational and intended for learners of all ages, including children. We design the app to follow Google Play's Families Policy, the Apple App Store Review Guidelines for apps used by children, and applicable children's privacy laws. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a child beyond what is needed to run an account they (or their parent or guardian) choose to create, and we do not use children's data for advertising.
Kids Mode shows only age-appropriate content, turns off all community sharing, hides promotional banners and outbound links, and keeps the in-app Sketch Book on our own website. It does not turn on any additional data collection. Parents and guardians can ask us to review or delete a child's data at any time (see Section 8 and the contact details below). Our Child Safety Standards explain how we protect children and how to report a concern.
7.Community Features & Online Safety
The Community Hub lets signed-in users vote in polls, suggest poll ideas, contribute data corrections, and optionally show a public profile. The app has no chat or direct messaging between users, and it does not support sharing a personal phone number for direct contact.
- Off by default: Posting and contributing are switched off until a parent or guardian turns them on (Profile → Settings → Community sharing). An adult check is needed to turn sharing on or off.
- Safety reminder: Before a user posts or contributes, the app shows a reminder to stay safe online and not to share personal information or talk to people they do not know.
- Adult approval for personal information: Adding or changing social media links on a profile always requires an adult check.
- Kids Mode: Community sharing is blocked while Kids Mode is on.
- Leaving the app: Links to websites or apps outside Indian Space Hub ask a parent or guardian to approve first.
- No cash rewards: The app does not collect payment details. Points and badges have no cash value.
- What others can see: Polls you submit, your first name (never your surname or email address), avatar, rank, follower count and any social links you choose to make public may be seen by other users. Likes, bookmarks and who you follow are private; nobody can see a list of who follows whom. Please do not include personal information in polls or contributions.
- Following: You can follow other users and ABHA organisations to see their polls and events. Following never gives anyone a way to message you.
- Moderation & reporting: Submissions are reviewed by moderators. Use the flag icon on any poll or profile to report it, see our Child Safety Standards, or email crew@indianspacehub.com.
8.ABHA: Events, Classes & Organisations
ABHA (Academic & Business Hub for Aerospace) lists events, lectures and classes run by verified space organisations, clubs and educators. Browsing is open to everyone and needs no account. Organisations are reviewed by our team before they appear.
- Registering for an event or class: your account name, email address and, only if you enter it, your phone number are shared with that event's organisers so they can manage attendance. You receive a QR pass; anyone with your pass link sees only your first name and the event.
- Check-in at the entrance: when an organiser scans your QR pass (or types its code), we record that you checked in and when. The organiser sees your check-in status for their own event only.
- Online sessions: meeting and recording links (for example Google Meet, Zoom, Microsoft Teams or YouTube) are shown only to registered attendees. Those services are run by other companies under their own privacy policies; opening them leaves our app.
- Contacting an organisation: the name, email and message you enter in the contact form are sent to that organisation.
- Running an organisation: organisers provide the organisation's public details (name, description, city and an optional public contact email). Your personal account email is not shown publicly. Organisers can see registrations for their own events only.
- Event views: we count views of event pages per day to show organisers anonymous totals. We do not tell organisers who viewed an event.
- Children: users under 18 and Kids Mode can browse ABHA but cannot register, contact organisations or run one; these share personal details and need an adult.
9.Data Deletion & Account Rights
You retain total control over your data. You can delete your account and all associated information permanently at any time. Deleting your account also removes your follows, likes and bookmarks; past event registrations are kept by organisers only as an anonymous attendance count:
