Semi-Cryogenic Engine (SCE-200)
Next-Gen Kerosene/LOX Booster Engine for NGLV & LVM3
The SCE-200 is ISRO's 2,000 kN thrust semi-cryogenic rocket engine powered by ISRO-approved ISROENE (refined kerosene) and liquid oxygen (LOX). It will replace the liquid L110 core stage on LVM3 and power the Next Generation Launch Vehicle (NGLV Soorya).
Development History & Milestones
Developed by LPSC, cold flow tests and turbopump developmental trials were conducted at IPRC Mahendragiri in 2023–2024.
Core Space Applications
- 1Boosting LVM3 payload capacity from 4 tonnes to 6 tonnes to GTO
- 2Primary stage engine for NGLV modular boosters
- 3Heavy space station module transportation
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a semi-cryogenic rocket engine?
A semi-cryogenic engine uses liquid oxygen at cryogenic temperatures (-183°C) combined with room-temperature refined kerosene (Isroene), providing high thrust without needing cryogenic liquid hydrogen.
